ATLANTA – Atlanta residents, Skip and Victoria Moore and family, are partnering with the Rally Foundation for Childhood Cancer Research to create the McCann 16 Home Run Challenge. For every home run Atlanta Braves catcher Brian McCann hits in the 2010 baseball season, the Moores will donate $1,000 to Rally.
Individuals can participate through one of four sponsorships. Double A sponsors pledge $1.60 per home run; Triple A sponsors pledge $16 per home run; and Big League sponsors pledge $160 per home run. The fourth option allows individuals to create their own pledge amount.
“We believe that Brian’s success can translate into a significant increase in the awareness of childhood cancer research and the Rally Foundation,” said the Moores. “We welcome others to join us in the McCann 16 Home Run Challenge and Brian’s goal of turning homers into hope.”
Four-time All-Star catcher Brian McCann hit 21 home runs last season and has a career high of 24 home runs in one season. He and his wife Ashley have been spokespeople for Rally since 2008.
“Kids get different cancers than adults, which means that different research is needed to find better treatments and cures. That’s why my wife Ashley and I have teamed up with the Rally Foundation – to help raise awareness and funds for childhood cancer research so that these kids can get back to being kids”, said McCann. “After meeting children affected by cancer and seeing what they go through, Rally Foundation has become close to our hearts.”
In just three years, the Rally Foundation awarded more than $1 million in research grants while supporting 40 projects in 23 hospitals nationwide.
